Ancient Greek geographers called it Taprobane;
Arabs referred to it as Serendib (the origin of the word "serendipity" (A bit trivia :));
"Ceilão" was the name given to X by the Portuguese when they arrived here in 1505.

Y asked X if he had any prior experience in movie making or attended a formal course in movie making or was atleast present at a film shoot. For all the above X's answer was a simple 'No'! But Y was convinced by the story and went on to make the movie which won the state award from Karnataka that year..

During WWII, there were quality problems in many British high-tech industries such as munitions, where bombs were exploding in factories during assembly.

The adopted solution was to require factories to document their manufacturing procedures and to prove by record-keeping that the procedures were being followed.

How do we better know BS 5750 today????

"I started doing sports when I was 10-11 years old. After realizing that my boisterous character was not sufficient for being the leader in the school and on the street, I went to the boxing club. However, I quit soon after they broke my nose. The pain was terrible, I could not touch the tip of my nose.

I decided to go in for unarmed self-defense. Wrestling was popular at that time, and I attended the wrestling club near my house. Coach Anatoly Rakhlin played the key role in my life, he safeguarded me from the bad influence of the street atmosphere. Then the trainer made the decision that we would prefer judo to unarmed self-defense, and the entire group passed to judo. Judo is not just a sport, this is a philosophy. The people with whom I attended the judo club, are still my friends”.

In 1976 I became the champion of the city of Leningrad (today - St. Petersburg). Our judo club had professionals, champions of the world, Europe, Olympics in unarmed self-defense and judo. I gained Master of Sports qualification both in unarmed self-defense and judo..."

It was the return trip from London to Bombay aboard the 'SS Narkunda' that would change forever the direction of X's future.

During the fifteen-day voyage, his restless and probing mind became fascinated with the deep blue color of the Mediterranean. Unable to accept Lord Rayleigh's explanation that the color of the sea was just a reflection of the color of the sky, X proceeded to outline his thoughts on the matter while still at sea and sent a letter to the editors of the journal Nature when the ship docked in Bombay.

A short time later X was able to show conclusively that the color of the sea was the result of the scattering of sunlight by the water molecules.

Ironically, it was exactly the same argument that Rayleigh had invoked when explaining the color of the sky-the blue was the result of the scattering of sunlight by the molecules in the air.

X was now obsessed with the phenomenon of light scattering and thus he founded Y.

Identify X and Y???

Ok I see you all tired of work!!! Hence Story Time folks :)
Here is a short story from Greek Mythology:

“Minotaur”, a dreaded monster, half man, half bull was held in a labyrinth on the island of Crete.

As usual hero Theseus takes vow to enter and kill the beast (Don’t ask me why??? I have no clues why that fellow took such a vow to kill that dreaded beast J may be to impress our heroine :))

Our Heroine :) Ariadne, daughter of the King of Crete, was in Love with our macho man J Theseus and gave him a “ball of thread” to guide him out of the labyrinth after he had slain the monster.

Ok! Forget about the moral of the story lets assume its an happy ending :)

29)
The phrase’s origin traces back to a puzzle wherein one has to connect 9 dots by drawing 4 straight, continuous lines, and never lifting the pencil from the paper.

The first appearance of the phrase is not obscure to people that worked in the Disney organization in the 1950s and 1960s. The 9 dot puzzle was used in training sessions within the company.

Each dot has a meaning and the 2 points outside of the box were labeled as "The Vision" and "The Method". After Walt Disney's death in 1966, everyone would ask, "How did Walt think?" Mike Vance, then Dean of Disney University would explain the 9 dot puzzle and how you had to ______ _____ __ __ ___ to solve it, as how Walt Disney's thought process always worked.

This term became common in the Disney organization from then on.

Which popular phrase am I talking about?

Clue: Think like the answer to get the answer :)

30)
"There was a young actress named Peg Entwistle who came out here in the late '20s to make a career," says Wallace. "She, like so many dreamers... didn't really get anywhere." Entwistle, who had acted on the New York stage before moving to California, had a couple of movie roles under her belt but hadn't yet found stardom.

"She decided she'd failed," Wallace says. "She was very dejected and one day in 1932 she came up to the Sign, found a maintenance ladder by the 'H,' climbed up to the top and presumably took one last look over this city that she had failed to conquer, and jumped."

The _____________ Kiwanis Club raised enough money to fix the damage, but soon after using the last of the funds to restore the 'D,' one of the 'O's crashed down the hill.

Fortunately, help was on the way. Hugh Hefner organized and hosted a party at the Playboy Mansion at which letters for a new sign would be sold at nearly $28,000 a pop. The adopt-a-letter campaign worked, and aided by Gene Autry (who bought an 'L') and rocker Alice Cooper ('O'), among others, Hefner ('Y') raised enough to prop those letters back up where they belonged.

What am I talking about???

31)
The name “________” was inspired by a poem written more than 800 years ago during the Song Dynasty.

The poem compares the search for a retreating beauty amid chaotic glamour with the search for one's dream while confronted by life's many obstacles.

"…hundreds and thousands of times, for her I searched in chaos, suddenly, I turned by chance, to where the lights were waning, and there she stood."

“________” whose literal meaning is hundreds of times, represents persistent search for the ideal.
