Onam - Festival of joy

Phew!!!lots of work over the past two weeks...very hectic out here...i thought of posting this on the eve of Onam festival but due to busy schedule I am forced to post this today...I always have the tendency to break up promises but not this time :-)...here i keep up my word to post atleast one blog for a month...

Onam, the harvest festival is celebrated with so much fun and passion all over Kerala. The three things that really come to my mind about Onam are the Onakkodi (new dress), Onam Pookalam(Flower Carpet) and the Onam Sadhya(Food)...

What makes this festival really interesting is its tradition of celebrating it for 10 days and i used to have real fun in all the 10 days in my childhood...

Onam was always a festival of joy for me...Be it decorating the vittu muttam (in front of house) with Pookalam (Flower carpet), getting up early before anyone in the neighbourhood and stealing all the flowers from their houses for our pookalam :-), Whose pookalam/dress is the best? contest with friends, Witnessing Vallam Kali (Boat Race), Worshipping temple, Onam Sadya, Ada Pradhaman...etc.,all are memorable days in my life...

Well this is the first time ever i missed all the celebrations, fun and in particular the delicious Onam Sadya by my Mom :-(...
